Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep 2017 combo forward P.J. Washington is one of the better prospects in the country and, accordingly, his attention is going to be spread thin for much of the summer.
“This next month is going to be incredibly busy for us,” said P.J.’s father, Paul. “Probably busier than we’ve ever been. First, he has the July tournaments and then right after that it’s USA basketball. It’s a huge deal fro PJ that he has this opportunity and he wants to do this right.
“He’s been working on his shooting from long range and midrange along with his ball-handling. He’s excited to show off his improvement against the best.”
After July, the Washington family figures to look closer into P.J.’s recruitment.
"We don’t want P.J. to go to a place where they pigeonhole him into a position that gives him little flexibility," Paul said. "He’s a versatile kid and we want to show that off.
"It’s the same group of schools: Arizona, Texas, Kentucky, UCLA, North Carolina, Cal and Syracuse with another school or two mixed in there, maybe.”
Arizona figures to be a big player in the recruitment of Washington.
“We went on an unofficial to Arizona and it went well," Paul said. "We aren’t going to be going on visits for a bit for the reasons I laid out earlier.
"We’re going to take our time with this decision. He’s got most of the best colleges in the country on him and we need to make sure he makes the best decision.”
