Even though Eugene (Ore.) Sheldon 2017 offensive lineman Cody Shear committed to the University of Arizona a week ago, his work for the school hasn’t stopped.
“Since I’ve committed I’ve been talking with a lot of other Arizona recruits about the school and trying to get as many players out there as possible,” Shear said.
“I want as many people to see the university in the same light I do and hopefully I can get another couple players to come.”
Shear has an idea to improve his chances at early playing time.
“I’m going to play all five offensive line positions this coming season," he said. "We have some depth problems along the line, so I’m doing my best to learn and excel at all the positions.
"Getting a real understanding will allow me to help the guys out on the line and it will also help me out in the future.”
The UA coaches have sold Shear on the idea of possibly earning early playing time.
“I know the coaches tell everyone that the best players will play early, but at the same time the coaches have a record of playing the best players early," Shear said.
"I look at it if I come in and play beyond my years, I will likely get a shot. If that doesn’t happen then I will work as hard as possible and do whatever the coaches need for me to help the team.”
