Boasting a college offer list that indicates anything but two-star prospect status, Mobile (Ala.) Christian 2017 safety Troy Young plans on proving folks wrong at the college level for the Arizona Wildcats.
“I talked a lot with my family and coaches and we thought that it was probably best to go ahead and announce my college team,” Young said. “There wasn’t a reason to continue to go through everything.”
Arizona’s pitch about team and individual goals along with high expectations appealed to Young.
“They think I can play early at safety," Young said. "It’s a big class they are bringing in and everyone is expected to compete now.
"Coach Yates is a coach who knows what he’s doing and likes to play a lot of defensive backs."
In fact, the coaching staff made a major impression on Young.
“The enthusiasm of the coaching staff is really cool," he said. "It’s easy to imagine going out there and trying to play out the game plan and scheme they want.
"I didn’t think I’d be able to choose a team so soon, but the coaches made that a lot easier for me.”
Young already has an idea of the attributes that attracted so many coaches.
“The main compliment I get is that I’m athletic and physical," he said. "I love the game of football and I want to play the right way and help my team win anyway I can.
"I just need to continue to work on the mental and little aspects of the game and I will be just fine.”
