Earlier this week, 2018 Greenfield (WI) Whitnall shooting guard Tyler Herro had an idea an Arizona offer may be close and on Tuesday the Wildcats came through.
“I knew Arizona was pretty close before they watched me this week,” Herro said. “I work hard every day. I was hoping it would come, but I wasn’t sure when.
“I am starting to hear more from Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Virginia, UCLA, and a bunch of others.
“I am going to visit Michigan and Michigan State, so we will see if they decide to offer also.”
Herro showed a versatile offensive game throughout the spring and summer, which led to a major increase his his recruiting attention.
“I think I played well this week,” Herro said. “My shot was off, but I got to the rim. I played well this spring and it got me a lot of offers and a lot of pub.”
Arizona started its recruitment of Herro before his play in Vegas and he has developed a strong relationship with assistant coach Mark Phelps.
“I have talked with Coach Phelps a lot and it’s not just basketball, it’s real life stuff,” Herro said.
“The offer means a lot because it is a big school and I think more schools will start to recruit me now.”
As Herro goes through the process, relationships will be the deciding factor in his recruitment.
“I would say it’s not the facilities or campus, it is the relationships,” he said. “I want a staff that believes in me and I believe in them to help me get to the next level.”
As of now, there are no plans for Herro to end his recruitment anytime soon.
“I am going to play it out and see what happens,” he said. “My parents and family will be a big part of my decision.”
