Baltimore Mount Saint Joseph forward Jalen Smith is one of the best prospects in the 2018 class and many coaches have taken notice.
“My summer went well,” Smith said. “A lot of coaches have come to my games and they tell me what I need to work on. It has been a fun experience.’
Smith played well in Las Vegas this past week as he tried to show off different aspects of his game.
“I wanted to show my outside game and my versatility,” he said. “I am able to drive and I have a jump shot, so I want to show that a little bit more.”
The five-star prospect had plenty of coaches in attendance and already holds offers from some of the best programs in the nation.
“A lot of coaches are reaching out to me and tell me they are going to watch me more and evaluate me,” Smith said.
“Syracuse, Arizona, Stanford, Miami, Villanova, and Maryland are the main schools recruiting me.”
Arizona was one of the earliest schools to get involved with Smith.
“I talk to Coach Miller,” Smith said. “He tells me I would be a good fit. He wants me to stay in the gym and tells me what to improve on. He’s know about me for a while.”
As Smith goes through the process, he has a good idea of what he is looking for in a school.
“It is important how schools treat their players on and off the court,” he said. “Education will also play a big role in my decision.”
At this point, don’t expect Smith to make an early decision.
“I enjoy the process,” he said. “It has been hectic with coaches calling constantly. I am trying to focus on my game and I will make my decision later on.
“I am hoping to visit Syracuse, Arizona, Duke, and USC soon. Location won’t play a factor at all in my decision.”
