One player Arizona fans may not be too familiar with is four-star Decatur (Ga.) Greenforest McCalep Christian Academy center Ikey Obiagu.
However, Arizona has been developing a relationship with the 7-foot-0, 225-pound 2017 big man.
“My recruitment is going great,” Obiagu said. “I am hearing from Baylor, Arizona, N.C. State, Louisville, Cal, UConn, and Texas the most.
“I talk a lot with Coach Pasternack and Sean Miller. They tell me they need a big man and have a good history and coaches that can help me reach my potential.”
The relationship Obiagu builds with a coaching staff will play a major role in his decision.
“I want a place that I can make an impact right away and coaches that have had success with big men,” he said. “I want to be able to get along with the coaching staff and work with them well.”
Obiagu had an inconsistent summer due in large part to an injury, but continues to work on becoming an all-around player.
“My summer didn’t go like I wanted because of injuries, but I didn’t feel like I had anything to prove,” Obiagu said. “I just tried to have fun in my last AAU period.
“I am more of a defensive player. I like blocking shots, but I am working on my offensive game. I want to improve my jump hooks and mid-range jump shots.”
Obiagu is taking his time with his recruitment and is unsure when he will make the first major step.
“I don’t have any visit plans yet and I am not sure when I want to make a decision,” he said. “I am going to take my time with everything.”
