Arizona has started its 2017 class with a solid pickup, as Tempe Corona Del Sol point guard Alex Barcello committed to the Wildcats on Friday.
The commitment does not come as much of a surprise, as the Arizona coaching staff recently picked up its pursuit of the four-star point guard. Barcello took officials to Butler and Stanford, but decided to end his recruitment on the first day of his official visit to Tucson.
Going into his officials, Barcello wanted it to seem as if he was open to other schools, but still spoke highly of Arizona.
“I am not set on one school,” Barcello said. “I am going to go where I feel the best fit is. I have a really close relationship with Coach Miller and I talk to Coach Book and Phelps a lot.
“They tell me they want me to be a point guard and leader on the floor. They want me to come in and contribute big minutes."
Sean Miller played a large role in Barcello's recruitment.
“I talk to Sean Miller a lot,” he said. “He has said that he wants me to come in and be a leader and run the team. He is a hands on coach and I like what Arizona is about so I like them as an option.”
Barcello is currently rated as the 86th best player in the class and the top player in the state of Arizona.
