Kobi Simmons is entering Arizona with plenty of hype and although he is listed on most recruiting services as a point guard, Sean Miller is confident he can play both guard spots.
“He’s definitely going to play both guard spots, the point guard and the two,” Miller said. “One of the things that Kobi does really well is he shoots the ball with consistency.”
Simmons does not have the typical skill set of a combo guard and Miller believes that his shooting ability will be a strength.
“Sometimes somebody who is athletically talented as he is, that combo guard, he has been able to use that athleticism and not develop a jump shot or three point shot,” Miller said. “The opposite is true for Kobi.
“He is very adept and skilled at shooting the ball. Free-throws, three-point shots, got a great looking shot. Whether he is at the one or the two that’s always going to be an asset for us offensively because he can put the ball in the basket and has a pure shot.”
There will be an adjustment period for Simmons as there is with any freshman, but there is confidence that he will succeed at Arizona sooner than later.
“He is almost 6-foot-5 and he is getting stronger almost every day he is here,” Miller said. “There will be an adjustment physically for him like any freshman because he is thin, but I think he will contribute at both guard spots for sure.”
