Arizona played about as poor as it possibly could on Saturday at it lost at 48-14 at home to the USC Trojans
USC started on its own 28 with an incomplete pass. Ronald Jones then gained three and on third down, Sam Darnold hit Steven Mitchell Jr. for 19 yards.
De’Quan Hampton caught a nine-yard pass and Jones added ten more on the ground. Arizona was called offside and Jones ran for 14 yards on the next play.
Jones gained two before Darnold ran for nine. After a loss for four, Jones scored from five yards out.
The extra point put the Trojans up 7-0 with 10:29 left in the first quarter.
Arizona got the ball on its own 25 and had a 28-yard run from Khalil Tate on first down. However, Nick Wilson lost two yards and Arizona got a false start on a drive that would end in a punt.
USC went three and out and a bad punt and personal foul put the Wildcats on the opposing 38.
Tate ran for six yards on first down and Wilson gained three on second. On third down, USC was called for pass interference.
Tate ran for four yards and Wilson added six more. Tate then scored on a three-yard run as the extra point tied the game at seven with 5:40 left in the first.
USC took possession on its own 25. After an incomplete pass, Jones gained three. Darnold then picked up the first with a seven-yard run.
Rogers caught a 17-yard pass and two plays later, Jones ran for six. Darnold once again converted on third down with a five-yard run.
USC threw an incomplete pass on first and Darnold gained four on second. He then connected with Smith-Schuster for 8.
Rogers caught an 11-yard pass before Ware ran for three yards. On third down, Darnold scrambled and found Deontay Burnett for the 11-yard touchdown.
The extra point put the Trojans up 14-7 to end the first quarter.
The Wildcats started on their own 25, but it went south quickly as Tate fumbled on second down and USC got the ball not he Arizona ten.
After a two-yard run by Jones, Darnold hit Daniel Imatorbhebhe for the eight-yard touchdown as the extra point put the Trojans up 21-7 with 13:42 left in the half.
Arizona took possession on its own 25 and got a defensive holding call on second down. Tate then ran for two and eight before Wilson gained 39.
Zach Green gained three and USC was called for a facemask on second down. Arizona got down to the one and on fourth down could not convert, giving USC the ball and failing to get any points on the board.
Jones ran for four yards on first down and Smith-Schuster caught a three-yard pass. Rogers then came up with a five-yard completion for the first down.
Both teams exchanged possessions before Arizona got it on its own 13. On first down, Tate threw an interception and USC got the ball on the 15.
Ware gained 11 yards on first down and two plays later, Smith-Schuster scored from three yards out.
The extra point failed, but the Trojans’ lead increased to 27-7 with 4:07 left in the half.
USC started on its own 20 with a two-yard run from Jones. Smith-Schuster then caught a nine-yard pass and after an incomplete pass, added 11 more.
Rogers got a nine-yard completion and Darnold ran for 18. Jones proceeded to catch a seven-yard pass and Smith-Schuster scored on a 39-yard completion.
The extra point extended the lead to 34-7 at the half.
Arizona couldn’t get anything going on its first drive. Shun Brown caught a nine yard pass and Samajie Grant gained 12 two plays later, but the Wildcats eventually punted.
On the ensuing drive, Darnold hit Smith-Schuster for a 46-yard touchdown with the extra point putting the Trojans up 41-3 and asking insult to injury.
