Los Angeles (Calif.) Crossroads 2017 power forward Ira Lee made his commitment to Arizona official on Wednesday when he signed his letter of intent.
“I’ve been wanting to become a Wildcat for a long time," Lee said. "I wanted to make sure that I gave all the schools on my list a legit chance.
"There really wasn’t a reason to commit before I was ready, but after a while it became apparent that I was going to end up at Arizona.”
The visits to Tucson were a big reason why.
“Man, every time I came out there it was like the red carpet treatment," Lee said. "The players out there all had a great experience, the facilities were top notch and the coaching staff was made up of a bunch of guys that I wanted to play for.”
Making Lee all the more attractive of a prospect, he harbors no illusions as to what makes him such an effective player.
“Right now, I’m a really high motor guy who can rebound, get put backs, play defense and step out and score if need be," he said. "The coaches want me to come in with that mindset.”
Yet Lee believes he is only a fraction of the player that he will eventually become.
“I’ve got to keep working on my shot and handle so that I can become even more flexible, but it’s something that I can do and I will get to that point," Lee said.
“I’m just relieved to be a Wildcat and get to work.”
