Saturday's game between Arizona and Colorado looked similar to most of the season as the Buffs defeated the Wildcats 49-24 at Arizona Stadium.
Arizona started with the ball, but was not able to get anything going and had to punt, giving Colorado the ball on its own 19.
Phillip Lindsay began the drive with a two-yard run and Devin Ross added a four-yard completion.
Jay McIntyre caught a five-yard pass and two plays later, Sefo Liufau ran for four yards. Liufau then found Ross for 16 more.
Arizona was called for defensive holding on second down and Lindsay proceeded to pick up gains of eight, two, seven, and three.
After a seven-yard run by Liufau and an incomplete pass Shay Field gained eight yards. Liufau picked up four on the ground and Lindsay scored from one yard out.
The extra point put Colorado up 7-0 with 7:27 left in the first quarter.
Arizona took over on its own 30 with a four-yard pass to Trevor Wood. Brandon Dawkins picked up runs of two and five before Samajie Grant gained 11.
Colorado was called for a late hit and two plays later, Dawkins ran for six yards. Zach Green added seven, but Arizona was called for a chop block on the next play.
Grant ran for 12 yards and two plays after, Arizona was called for a false start. Eventually it settled for a 44-yard field goal that missed and kept Colorado’s lead at 7-0.
Colorado had possession on its own 24 and Liufau lost three on first down. He then ran for 11 and four.
Arizona was called for defensive holding and Lindsay ran for one yard on the next play. An incomplete pass and sack by Michael Barton then forced the Buffs to punt.
Starting on the 15, Grant ran for three yards and Dawkins added 20 on the ground on the next play.
On second down, Dawkins found Shun Brown for 51 yards. Grant then picked up two and Colorado was called for defensive holding on third down.
Grant ran for two yards and then scored from three yards out on the next play as the extra point tied the game at seven with 12:28 left in the half.
The Buffs started on their own 37 with an eight-yard pass to Ross. Lindsay then gained four on the ground and Liufau hit Fields for 47 yards.
Lindsay scored from four yards out as the extra point put Colorado up 14-7 with 11:29 left in the half.
Arizona took over on its own 25 and Grant gained eight on first down. Green then picked up gains of eight, five, and right before Grant ran for 45 yards.
Green then ran for five more and added three, but Arizona was stopped on third and short. The ensuing 23-yard field goal cut Colorado’s lead to 14-10 with 8:22 remaining in the half.
Colorado began the drive on its own 38 with a five-yard pass to MacIntyre. Liufau ran for 22 yards on second down and Lindsay gained five.
After a loss of one, Arizona was called for a late hit. Two plays later, Fields caught a 15-yard touchdown and the extra point put the Buffs up 21-10 with 5:45 left in the half.
Arizona and Colorado exchanged possessions and Arizona got nothing on the next drive, as Colorado took over on its own 47.
Lindsay ran for two yard and Bryce Bobo caught a nine-yard pass. Two plays later, Liufau hit MacIntyre for 40 yards and the extra point made it 28-10 with 1:29 remaining in the half.
Arizona started on its own 25 with a 15-yard pass to Cam Denson. Dawkins then picked up three yards and the Wildcats were called for a facemask.
Dawkins ran for five and then threw an incomplete pass before gaining 20 on the ground.
After three straight incompletions and an intentional grounding penalty, Arizona missed a 50-yard field goal to end the half.
Colorado went three and out to start the half and Arizona took over on its own 18. Green gained four and added two more in the air before Nate Phillips caught a 12-yard pass.
Grant hd two runs for four yards each and Dawkins added three. Shun Brown caught an eight-yard pass and Grant added three more.
Dawkins ran for five and Grant did the same for 12. Dawkins then added runs of two and five, but was sacked on third down.
The ensuing 44-yard field goal was wide as Pollack missed his third field goal of the night.
Colorado got possession on its own 27 and began with a 12-yard run from Lindsay. Three plays later, Arizona was called for pass interference on third down.
Lindsay picked up two and Fields caught a six-yard pass. Liufau ran for eight and then hit Fields for a 27-yard score as the extra point gave the Buffs a 35-10 lead with 5:01 remaining in the third.
Later in the game, Arizona put Anu Solomon in and he led the Wildcats on a scoring drive, capped off by a two-yard run from Grant, but it only cut the lead to 42-17 with 13:47 left.
Early in the fourth, Liufau threw an interception to Brandon Rutt and the Wildcats took over on Colorado’s 33.
Brown gained 29 yards on a reverse and Green scored two plays later as Arizona cut the lead to 42-24 with 12:11 left.
