It would be an understatement to say Rich Rodriguez wasn't happy after Arizona’s embarrassing loss to Oregon State on Saturday.
“They ran the same play over and over again,” Rodriguez said. “It’s embarrassing. We got pushed around. It’s all on me.”
Rodriguez pointed at Arizona’s overall lack of strength as one of the biggest reasons for Arizona’s struggles.
“Obviously we have a weight program, some guys are freshmen so they haven’t had time to get stronger, but we can’t get off a block,” Rodriguez said.
“We’re too weak. We can't hold blocks and we can’t get off blocks. You can’t do that and you’re going to get your tail kicked. Maybe instead of practicing, just lift weights. It’s embarrassing and I have to take blame for that.”
Ideally, Arizona will help itself on the recruiting trail.
“We’re too small and we’re too weak and that goes back to me and recruiting,” Rodriguez said. “It’s embarrassing. We have to address it in recruiting and if we can’t help ourselves right away in recruiting it’s pretty obvious we can’t see what’s going on.”
Still, that doesn’t take away from the fact that Arizona simply couldn’t do anything right Saturday night.
“We make every quarterback we play look like a Heisman Trophy winner,” he said. “Every wide out, every running back, every quarterback we play, has a career day against us.”
Arizona’s attention now turns to Arizona State.
“When you’re going through hell, you have to keep going,” Rodriguez said. “We have to turn around and get ready for ASU because they will run the same plays over and over again and push around as well.”
