It’s no secret that Arizona wants to add size that can contribute immediately and it did just that on Sunday with the commitment of Santa Clarita (Calif) College of the Canyons defensive lineman Sione Taufahema
The 6-foot-2, 310-pound defensive lineman committed due in large part to his experience on this past weekend’s official visit.
“I committed because of the family atmosphere that I felt from the coaches,” Taufahema said. “We were all at Coach Rod’s house on Saturday with the coaches and their wives and all the recruits I felt the family love and atmosphere.”
Taufahema also took a different look at his possible future at Arizona.
“I took myself out of the football perspective and wondered if Arizona would be the right place for me if I was a regular student and that is what I felt, so I made the decision to commit,” he said.
Defensive line coach Vince Amey played a large role in Taufahema’s decision.
“Coach Amey is a real cool guy,” he said. “We got really close over the visit and I think him coaching me will be great. He is still young and I feel like it will overall be a good relationship.”
With Arizona’s need for size, the coaching staff sold Taufahema on immediate playing time.
“They tell me I am going to come in and do the same thing I did at the junior college level and cause havoc,” he said. “They want me to come in and be a starter.”
What can Arizona expect from its latest commitment?
“They can expect a guy that works hard and comes in and does everything right,” Taufahema said.
