Arizona hangs on to defeat Texas A&M

Arizona defeated Texas A&M 67-63 on Saturday morning. Read on for a complete recap.

Arizona blew a late lead, but held on to defeat Texas A&M 67-63 Saturday in Houston. 

Dusan Ristic and Admon Gilder scored to start the game before Ristic scored again. Tyler Davis got on the board and D.J. Hogg made a three.

Lauri Markkanen hit a jumper before Ristic scored two straight buckets. Markkanen made a three and Davis scored as Arizona led 13-9 at the media timeout. 

Robert Williams and Hogg scored to force Sean Miller to call timeout with the game tied at 13.

Kobi Simmons scored and Rawle Alkins got a three-point play. Ristic made two free-throws and Gilder hit a three.

Simmons and Davis exchanged buckets before Ristic and Williams did the same as Arizona led 24-20 with 7:58 left in the half. 

Ristic scored and Davis made a free-throw. Gilder scored and Markkanen made two free-throws. 

Davis made one from the line and Pinder scored. Davis made two free-throws and Arizona led 30-26 with 3:03 left.

Markkanen and Gilder made two free-throws each before Alkins had a three-point play. Simmons made a free-throw and Markkanen hit a three to put Arizona up 41-28 at the half. 

Alkins and Davis exchanged buckets to start the half and two free-throws put the Wildcats up 45-30.

JC Hampton made two free-throws, but Allen did as well. Simmons scored and Chance Comanche got on the board with a lob as Arizona built a 51-32 lead with 14:08 left. 

Hogg scored and Williams added a bucket, but Markkanen made a jumper and Arizona’s lead held at 17.

Markkanen made a three and Ristic and Gilder scored. Allen and Davis both had three-point plays before a bucket by Ristic put the Wildcats up 62-41 with a little over seven minutes remaining. 

Williams scored and Simmons made two free-throws before Williams hit another bucket. Simmons then made one of two from the line and Williams scored again to cut Arizona’s lead to 65-47 with 3:42 left.

Hogg scored and Williams made a free-throw. Davis then hit two straight buckets to cut the lead to 11 with 1:50 remaining.

Davis then scored six straight points to bring the lead to 65-60 with 32 seconds left. Davis got to the line and missed two free-throws, but A&M got the offensive board and Hogg made a three to come within two with 21 seconds left. 

Alkins proceeded to get fouled and made both free-throws to help the Wildcats hang on.
