Ramirez excited to be a Wildcat

Arizona received a surprise commitment this past weekend. Read on to see why linebacker Jose Ramirez became a Wildcat and more.

Arizona got a surprise commitment on Saturday when Auburndale (Fla.) linebacker Jose Ramirez decided to become a Wildcat.

"It is real exciting right now," Ramirez said. "I know it is a big opportunity and I will be able to have an impact and playing in the Pac-12 feels good."

Ramirez is in a unique situation in that he has yet to vsiit Arizona, but will be a student in a matter of weeks.

"I am enrolling mid-year," he said. "I graduate next month, so once I get out there that's it. It's like I will be taking my first visit and signing, but I am confident I will like it."

Arizona decided to pick it up with Ramirez on Monday and the rest moved fast.

"They offered me on Monday night," Ramirez said. "Coach Addae offered me and once he offered me I was excited because I know it is a big opportunity.

"I have not gone on a visit yet, but the fact that it is a big school like Arizona and I would be in a position to play my freshman year was big for me."

Ramirez was recruited at numerous positions, but at 6-foot-2, 209 pounds, will play linebacker for Arizona.

"I was committed to South Alabama," he said. "I also had offers from Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Troy, and some others also. I have about ten offers in total.

"Arizona wants me as a linebacker. I would describe myself as a hard worker and go-getter like likes to hit hard."
