Arizona opens Pac-12 play with win over Cal

Arizona defeated Cal 67-62 on the road Friday night. Read on for a complete recap.

Despite falling behind early, Arizona used four players in double figures to defeat Cal 67-62 Friday night at Haas Pavilion.

Charlie Moore and Sam Singer scored to start the game and Sean Miller called a quick timeout with the Wildcats down 4-0.

Dusan Ristic proceeded to make two consecutive shots to tie the game at four at the media timeout.

Lauri Markkanen scored and Moore made a three. He then got into the lane for a bucket as Cal led 9-6 with a little less than 12 minutes left in the half.

Roger Moute a Bidias made three free-throws before Jabari Bird and Rabb scored. A shot by Kingsley Okoroh then forced a timeout as Cal led 18-6 with 10:03 remaining in the half.

Bird made one free-throw, but Markkanen scored and then added a three-point play. Rawle Alkins got a bucket and Ristic got one of his own as the Wildcats cut the lead to 19-15 with 7:14 left in the first half.

Bird got a three-point play and Rabb scored. Kobi Simmons then got a dunk and Arizona was within 24-17 with 4:02 left in the half. 

Rabb scored and Kadeem Allen made a three. Moute a Bidias hit two free-throws before Rabb and Ristic exchanged buckets.

Simmons and Bird did the same, as a shot by Ristic cut Cal’s lead to 32-26 at halftime.

Rabb and Ristic exchanged baskets before Allen scored. Simmons and Bird both scored, but two consecutive buckets by Simmons tied the game at 36 with 15:52 remaining.

Simmons scored and made two free-throws. Markkanen made one from the line, but Rabb scored.

Grant Mullins and Rabb both got buckets before a score by Alkins put Arizona up 43-42 with 10:55 remaining.

Okoroh made a free-throw and Chance Comanche got on the board with a three-point play. Okoroh then scored, but Allen and Parker Jackson-Cartwright responded.

Mullins made a three and Ristic and Alkins both scored as Arizona led 54-48 with 6:56 left in regulation.

Okoroh scored, but Markkanen made a shot and a three. Singer then made two from the line and the Wildcats led 59-52 with 3:41 left.

Rabb made a free-throw and Moore hit two. Alkins got a three-point play and later went one of two at the line.

Ristic made a long jumper and Moore hit two free-throws as Arizona led with 40 seconds left. Allen made two free-throws and Moore made one.

Arizona then turned it over and Bird made a three. However, a free-throw by Alkins sealed the deal.
