Arizona jumped out to a 12-0 lead and never looked back as it defeated the Sun Devils 91-75 Thursday night at McKale.
Dusan Ristic scored to start the game and Kobi Simmons made a three. Lauri Markkanen then got a dunk off a rebound and a shot by Ristic gave the Wildcats a 9-0 and forced timeout less than two minutes into the game.
Ristic got a three-point play and Torian Graham put ASU on the board before a score by Ristic gave the Wildcats a 14-2 lead at the media timeout.
Obinna Oleka scored two consecutive buckets before Chance Comanche got a dunk. Kadeem Allen and Rawle Alkins proceeded to score their first points of the game as well.
Ramon Vila then scored in the paint and Arizona led 20-8 with 11:25 left in the first half.
Tra Holder scored and made two free-throws to bring ASU within single digits, but Markkanen made three consecutive threes to give the Wildcats a 29-12 lead with 8:25 remaining in the half.
Oleka scored and Simmons made a three. Alkins and Justice then exchanged buckets before Comanche and Markkanen scored.
Holder made two from the line, but Comanche and Markkanen scored again. Graham and Comanche then exchanged baskets as Arizona led 44-20 with 3:09 left in the half.
Holder and Alkins both made one free-throw each before ASU got a basket from Holder and Oleka.
Holder and Markkanen scored the first points of the half before Oleka scored. Ristic then made a three, as did Justice.
Allen scored and Graham and Simmons then exchanged threes as Arizona led 55-35 a little over three minutes into the second half.
Oleka made a three and Markkanen hit a layup. A three by Holder then cut Arizona’s lead to 57-41 at the media timeout.
Graham made a three, but Markkanen responded with a three-point play. Holder scored and Markkanen made a free-throw followed by a basket.
A three by Graham then cut the Arizona lead to 63-49 with 11:44 remaining.
Comanche made a free-throw and Ristic scored. Oleka made two from the line before Holder got a bucket.
Allen then scored and Holder made a three, as a bucket by Markkanen put the Wildcats up 70-56 with 8:12 left.
Ristic made two free-throws as did Evans. Allen then scored and Simmons made a layup before a dunk by Simmons gave the Wildcats a 78-58 lead with just over five minutes remaining.
Oleka got a basket and Allen made a free-throw before a three by Justice cut the lead to 16. However, Allen got it right back with a three of his own and Arizona held a 19-point lead with just under three minutes left.
