Arizona makes statement at UCLA

Arizona defeated UCLA 96-85 on Saturday. Read on for a complete recap.

Arizona came into UCLA as the underdog on Saturday afternoon.

Underdog, no more.

Six players scored in double figures and the Wildcats defeated the Bruins 96-85. 

Kadeem Allen scored and Rawle Alkins did as well, but Lonzo Ball made a three. Kobi Simmons and T.J. Leaf exchanged buckets and Ball scored again. 

After a shot by Markkanen, Ball made a three. Simmons and Thomas Welsh both scored and Leaf and  Alford did as well.

A three by Markkanen then cut the UCLA lead to 16-13 at the media timeout. 

Allen scored and Parker Jackson-Cartwright made a three. Aaron Holiday made two from the line, but Chance Comanche got on the board.

Simmons hit a three and Gyorgy Goloman responded with a dunk. Ball made a three and Comanche scored.

Rawle Alkins scored two at the free-throw line, but a bucket by Holiday cut Arizona’s lead to 27-25 with over seven minutes left in the half.

Leaf and Ike Anigbogu both scored and Markkanen made two free-throws. Jackson-Cartwright hit a three, but Ball scored quickly.

Comanche scored and Markkanen nailed a three. A layup by ball proceeded to cut Arizona’s lead to 37-33 with 3:20 left in the half.

Simmons made a three and Leaf hit two free-throws. Comanche and Holiday then exchanged buckets as Arizona led 42-37 with 1:13 remaining in the half. 

Allonzo Trier got on the board with a three and followed by making one of two free-throws. He then made a layup to end the half and Arizona led 48-37.

Isaac Hamilton scored to start the half, but Dusan Ristic got a three-point play. Hamilton scored again and Simmons responded with two consecutive baskets.

Alford made one free-throw off a technical on Simmons and Leaf got a bucket. Ristic scored, but Hamilton responded with a three-point play. 

Ball scored and Allen got a three-point play of his own. Alford then made a three and Arizona’s lead was 60-52 a few minutes into the second half.

Ristic made two free-throws and Trier scored. Alford hit a three from the corner and Ristic and Welsh exchanged buckets as Arizona’s lead held at nine with 13:39 left in regulation. 

Ball proceeded to score five straight points and Arizona’s lead quickly cut to 66-62 less than two minutes later.

Alkins made a free-throw and Hamilton and Alkins exchanged threes. Simmons made two free-throws, but Holiday nailed one from behind the arc.

Ristic and Hamilton exchanged buckets before Alkins scored. Holiday made a free-throw and a dunk by Trier have the Wildcats a 78-71 lead with 7:24 left.

Markkanen made a three and Leaf scored. Simmons and Welsh then hit two free-throws each as Arizona led 83-75 with 4:58 remaining.

Comanche was able to score on a lob, but a three by Alford cut Arizona’s lead to 85-78 with 3:39 left.

Markkanen scored, but Alford made a three. Allen scored and Hamilton made two free-throws. Markkanen then got a three-point play and Arizona built a 92-83 lead with 39 seconds left.
