Gasaway still considering Cats

Cajon High School in San Bernardino, California is home to a fast, physical wide receiver who meets Coach John Mackovic's criteria for bigger and stronger receivers. Although Deandre Gasaway does not presently have Arizona in his top five schools, the speedy standout does have a family connection to Tucson, which means the Wildcats can't be counted out.

Cat Tracks: Deandre are you still being recruited by the UofA?
Deandre Gasaway: I think so. I don't know for sure.

CT: Have you played your first game yet?
DG: No, we haven't played a game yet. We have a scrimmage coming up Friday. It's a 3-way scrimmage.

CT: How big are you now?
DG: I'm 6-2 or 6-3, and I weigh 195.

CT: What schools are you primarily looking at?
DG: Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State and USC. That would be my top four right now.

CT: So UofA is not in your top tier of schools?
DG: Well, UA is not really in my top three or four but I wouldn't count them out though.

CT: Who has recruited you the hardest?
DG: Colorado has recruited me the hardest followed by Oregon.

CT: Did you have a favorite team that you followed growing up?
DG: The Miami Hurricanes were always my favorite team coming up. They played with fire and had good running backs.

CT: What kind of season did you have last year?
DG: As a receiver last year I had 32 catches for 500 some yards. And I had two touchdowns.

CT: Did you also handle kick-off and punt returns?
DG: Not last year, but this year I will be adding kick returns and punt returns.

CT: How did your team do last year?
DG: We didn't do that good as a team last year; I think we were 4-6. I think we'll be better this year because we'll be more experienced.

CT: Have you attended the UofA summer camp or have you ever been to Tucson before?
DG: I have been to Tucson before. I have family over there; my uncle lives there. I like Tucson. It's pretty nice.

CT: Did you go to any camps this summer?
DG: I went to the USC camp and I went to the Nike camp at USC for skill position players.

CT: How fast are you right now?
DG: I run a 4.51 forty.

CT: How would you describe yourself as a receiver?
DG: I would describe myself as a physical WR.

CT: Are you looking to commit early or do you think you'll take all of your trips?
DG: I want to wait till the recruiting heats up. I want to take all my trips. I know I will take one to Oregon and I might take one to Oregon State.
