Arizona controlled Cal throughout and won 62-57 Saturday night at McKale.
Dusan Ristic scored the first four points of the game and Jabari Bird made a three as Arizona led 4-3 at the media timeout.
Chance Comanche made a free-throw, but Charlie Moore scored. Comanche scored again and Bird responded with a three.
Kobi Simmons and Grant Mullins exchanged threes before Keanu Pinder scored. Ivan Rabb got a bucket and Simmons made another three as Arizona led 15-13 with 11:41 left in the first half.
Ristic and Kameron Rooks both scored before a three by Stephen Domingo put the Golden Bears up 18-17 with 6:48 remaining in the half.
Rooks scored Rawle Alkins had a three-point play. Ristic scored and Kadeem Allen then hit a three to put the Wildcats up 25-20 with under four minutes left in the half.
Singer made two free-throws and Simmons hit a jumper. Mullins made a three, but Allen responded with one of his own.
Simmons then got a dunk off a turnover and the Wildcats went up 32-25 with under a minute remaining in the half.
Parker Jackson-Cartwright proceeded to close out the half with a floater and Arizona led 34-25 at halftime.
Allen and Rooks scored to start the half before a basket by Domingo cut Arizona’s lead to 36-29 and forced a timeout less than three minutes in.
Lauri Markkanen made a three, but Mullins hit a jumper. A dunk by Comanche then extended Arizona’s lead to 41-31 at the media timeout.
Mullins made a jumper and Comanche matched it. Rabb then got a bucket and two free-throws from Bird cut the Wildcats’ lead to 43-37 with 11:45 left.
Bird made two free-throws before Ristic scored consecutive buckets to force a timeout with the Wildcats up 47-39 with 8:33 remaining.
Bird score and Simmons came back with a three-point play. Bird hit another shot and yet one more after a free-throw by Markkanen.
Allen and Rooks exchanged a pair of free-throws each as Arizona led 53-47 with 3:16 left.
Rooks made two free-throws and Alkins responded with a bucket. Mullins then hit one of his own and two free-throws by Markkanen gave Arizona a 57-51 lead with 1:02 remaining.
Comanche made two free-throws, but Singer got a layup. Allen proceeded to make a free-throw and Singer one free-throw as Arizona led 59-54 with 20 seconds left.
Two free-throws by Trier with 17 seconds left then sealed the victory for the Wildcats.
