Short-handed Arizona defeats Washington

Despite missing two starters, Arizona defeated Washington 76-68 Saturday night. Read on for the complete recap.

Arizona was missing both Kadeem Allen and Dusan Ristic, but got a combined 47 points from Lauri Markkanen and Allonzo Trier to defeat Washington 76-68 on Saturday night. 

Allonzo Trier made a three, but Matisse Thybulle responded with a bucket. Trier hit another three and Noah Dickerson got on the board.

Thybulle made a three and Chance Comanche scored. Markelle Fultz got a bucket, but Lauri Markkanen made two free-throws and a shot to put the Wildcats up 12-9 at the media timeout. 

Parker Jackson-Cartwright hit a three and Markkanen scored. Noah Dickerson got two consecutive hoops before Jackson-Cartwright made a three.

Thybulle made a three of his own and Malik Dime got a bucket as Arizona led 20-18 with 11:54 remaining in the first half.

Markkanen scored two straight buckets before Fultz made one free-throw. Carlos Johnson and Dickerson scored, but Markkanen made two free-throws and Comanche scored to put Arizona up 28-23 with 7:29 left in the half. 

Fultz made a free-throw and Markkanen scored. Johnson and Alkins exchanged buckets before Alkins made one from the line.

Crisp made a three and a layup to cut Arizona’s lead to 33-31 and force a timeout.

Fultz and Trier made two free-throws each before Dickerson scored. Markkanen made a bucket and Fultz hit two free-throws.

Jackson-Cartwright then made a three and Markkanen scored to put the Wildcats up 42-37 with a few minutes left in the half.

Fultz scored on a layup and then hit a three as the Huskies ties the game at 42 going into the half.

Comanche and Crisp scored before Thybulle got a bucket. Trier then hit a three and a bucket by Fultz kept the Huskies within three.

Fultz then scored two more baskets and Arizona took timeout down 52-51 with just under 15 minutes remaining. 

Trier made a three and Kobi Simmons finally scored. Fultz made a free-throw byT a bucket by Markkanen and Comanche faced a UW timeout with the Wildcats up 60-53 with under 11 minutes left.

Crisp made a three and Trier hit a free-throw. He then scored, but Johnson did as well. Markkanen proceeded to get a basket and soon hit two free-throws to extend Arizona’s lead to 67-58.

Dickerson and Trier exchanged buckets before Dickerson scored again. Fultz then hit a three and Sean Miller called timeout with Arizona leading 69-65 with 4:30 remaining.

Fultz and Trier both hit one free-throw each. Trier then made two more, as did Fultz. Comanche got a dunk on an offensive rebound to put the Wildcats up 73-68 with 44 seconds left.
