Offense leads Arizona over USC

Arizona defeated USC 90-77 Thursday night. Read on for a complete recap.

It wasn't Arizona's best defensive effort of the season, but the offense did more than enough to lead the Wildcats to a 90-77 victory over USC Thursday night at McKale.

De’Anthony Melton and Kadeem Allen scored to start the game. Allonzo Trier then made a three and Jordan McLaughlin scored as Arizona led 5-4 at the media timeout. 

Chance Comanche made two free-throws and Chimezie Metu got on the board. Allen got a bucket before Bennie Boatwright did as well.

Dusan Ristic and Kobi Simmons scored, but McLaughlin got five consecutive points to tie the game at 13 with 11:23 left in the half. 

Boatwright scored two straight baskets before Rawle Alkins got a bucket. Shaqquan Aaron then hit a three and Elijah Stewart got a dunk to force Sean Miller to call timeout with Arizona down 22-15. 

Lauri Markkanen and Trier made one free-throw each, but Melton matched it with a basket and USC led 24-17 with 7:36 remaining in the half. 

Nikola Rakocevic made two free-throws, but Allen scored. Melton got a bucket and Alkins hit a three.

Boatwright hit two from the line and Alkins responded with a score. Boatwright then made a three before Markkanen scored on a jumper.

Comanche made two free-throws and Stewart scored. Markkanen then got a dunk and the Wildcats were within 35-30 with 3:28 left in the half.

Markkanen and Melton exchanged buckets before Simmons and Trier made threes to give the Wildcats a 38-37 lead and force a USC timeout. 

After a bucket by McLaughlin, Simmons and Trier made another three each and the Wildcats went into the half up 44-39. 

Comanche and McLaughlin scored to start the half. Metu got a bucket and Trier responded with a three.

Boatwright made a three of his own and Trier scored. USC got another three from Boatwright before a bucket by Allen as Arizona led 53-49 at the media timeout. 

Parker Jackson-Cartwright made a three and Metu then scored. Akins and Ristic then got a bucket each as Arizona built a 60-51 lead with just over 12 minutes left.

Metu made two free-throws, but Arizona responded with a basket from Ristic and two from Trier to cause USC to call timeout down 66-53.

Melton scored and Alkins then made a three. Ristic then got a bucket before Boatwright hit two free-throws to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 71-57 with 7:59 left.

Metu and Ristic exchanged buckets before Stewart made one free-throw and Trier hit two. Jackson-Cartwright made a three and Boatwright four consecutive free-throws as Arizona led 78-66 with 3:24 remaining.

Metu scored and Markkanen made two free-throws. After another basket by Metu, he proceeded to make one free-throw to cut the lead to 80-72 with 1:57 left. 

Boatwright made two free-throws and Markkanen responded with a layup. Trier made two free-throws and McLaughlin did as well. A free-throw by Jackson-Cartwright and two from Trier then put the Wildcats up 87-75 with 51 seconds left.
