Big second half leads Arizona over ASU

Arizona used a dominant second half to defeat Arizona State Saturday. Read on for the complete recap.

Arizona used a dominant second half to defeat Arizona State 73-60 Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena.

Rawle Alkins scored and Lauri Markkanen made a free-throw. Alkins scored again, but Kodi Justice picked up a three-point play.

Allonzo Trier got on the board and Kadeem Allen hit a jumper. Torian Graham then scored on a layup and the Wildcats led 9-5 at the media timeout. 

Chance Comanche scored and Obinna Oleka responded. Parker Jackson-Cartwright proceeded to make a three before Comanche scored again.

Arizona State then got a basket by Ramon Villa to cut the Arizona lead to 16-9 with 11:36 remaining in the first half. 

Tra Holder made a three and Dusan Ristic then scored. Oleka got a bucket that was followed by a three from Justice.

Jackson-Cartwright then made a three of his own to put the Wildcats up 21-17 with 7:21 left in the half. 

Trier made a three-point play and Holder hit one free-throw. Shannon Evans then made a three and Alkins hit one free-throw.

Oleka made a free-throw as well before a three by Graham gave the Sun Devils a 26-25 lead with 3:42 remaining in the half. 

Alkins and Justice exchanged baskets before Oleka made a free-throw. Comanche hit two from the Pinder and Keanu Pinder one to give Arizona a 30-29 lead at the half. 

Pinder scored and Allen made a three. A jumper by Trier then forced an ASU timeout with the Wildcats quickly up 37-29.

Markkanen scored and Trier made a free-throw. Justice proceeded to hit a three, but a bucket by Markkanen put Arizona up 42-32 at the media timeout.

Trier scored, but Evans responded with a three-point play. Ristic made two free-throws and Evans got another three-point play.

Comanche scored and Graham responded with two free-throws as Arizona led 48-40 with 11:39 left in regulation. 

Markkanen made a free-throw and Allen hit two. Obeka and Allen both scored before Graham and Markkanen hit two free-throws each.

Graham and Trier proceeded to exchanged threes as Arizona built a 58-47 lead with 6:38 remaining. 

Markkanen scored and Holder hit two free-throws. Allen and Alkins then got a bucket each as Bobby Hurley called timeout with the Wildcats up 64-49 with just over five minutes left. 

Alkins made a free-throw and Graham hit a three. Trier made two free-throws, but another three from Justice cut the lead to 67-55 with 2:35 remaining.

Allen made a free-throw and Justice hit another three as Arizona's lead went down to 68-58 with over a minute left. Trier proceeded to make two free-throws to lock up the win and a share of the Pac-12 title.
