Recruiting update: September 30th

As the Wildcats creep closer and closer to signing day, things are really starting to take shape for their recruiting class. The Cats appear to be down to just a handful of recruits on their list and are quickly losing recruits to other schools.

According to Jeff Goodman of the Insiders, the Wildcats are out of the running for two of the big men they were looking at. Goodman reports that C.J. Giles is going to commit to Miami, while Brian Johnson has dropped the Cats and will choose between Louisville and Georgia Tech.

The Giles scenario is very interesting. Giles was supposed to visit Kansas this weekend, but apparently did not open the package containing his plane tickets until it was too late. Giles then tried to schedule a visit to Arizona but was unable to do so with Lute Olson out of town. Now it seems like a moot point as he will become the centerpiece of Perry Clark's Miami Hurricane's.

One player the Cats are in great shape for is Davis Nwankwo. Olson and Josh Pastner made their in-home visit with the Nwankwo family on Sunday and all accounts indicate the visit was great. Nwankwo still favors the Cats, but his parents don't want him to rush anything. He will visit Georgia Tech this weekend before making any kind of decision.

With the Wildcats being dropped by Isaiah Swann, that leaves Shaun Livingston as the lone guard recruit left on the radar screen. It could be tough keeping the nation's top point guard away from Duke or North Carolina, but as of now the Cats are still in the hunt. Olson and Pastner make their in-home visit to the Livingston family Tuesday night.

The Cats are still in the hunt for Robert Rothbart and will visit the seven-footer next Saturday night. It will be interesting to see if the Cats want to add Rothbart if Nwankwo commits. The Cats are still waiting on the status of Chris Dunn but may want to add a third big man to the class.

Jeremis Smith is also on the radar screen. Smith can play either forward position and may be a nice player to round out the class in case the Cats don't land Livingston.
