Mike Hankwitz lost his Arizona coaching debut. Of the last five Wildcat coaches, only John Mackovic won his Wildcat debut. Dick Tomey, Larry Smith and Tony Mason also lost their first games with the school.
Washington State has won four straight over the Wildcats. Coincidentally the Wildcats last conference home win was a 53-50 win over the Cougars in 2000.
HEAVNER AS A STARTER
Kris Heavner is 32-64 for 404 yards and a pair of scores as a starter. On the negative side, he has four interceptions in his two starts.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Heavner hits Gilbert Harris on fourth and three and the sophomore fullbacks turns the short pass into a 27-yard gain.
Kili Lefotu pulled in a deflected pass for his first career pass reception.

"We flew around and played hard, and to be in the game that late in the game I think says a lot about these kids," said Arizona interim coach Mike Hankwitz. "There's a process you have to go through to learn how to win and we're taking steps that way. I think building on what we did last week in staying with a ranked team, it should give us validity in what we're trying to accomplish and believe in."
