OU, Arizona Try With Hairston

Malik Hairston is sorting through the process. Two new schools are trying to get in the mix while a Big Ten power is also trying to stay in the hunt. Here's the latest on Hairston.

Ohio State had a chance to bring him onto campus. Now, just one of those three schools remains in the hunt.

"Actually, when Kansas and UCLA both got commitments, I decided to look at a couple more schools like Arizona," Hairston said. And there's more.

"I'm looking at Michigan State and Ohio State."

Hairston admits that a pair of programs are in his first tier of schools and he's just not sure where the other three stand right now.

"To be completely honest, I don't know if there is a leader. The way I look at it, I do a lot of different comparisons. As of right now, it's like Ohio State and Michigan above and Arizona and Oklahoma, I'm learning about them. I'm going to go sit down with Coach Izzo."

In fact, Hairston could sit down with Izzo sometime next week. Meanwhile, OU would like to get him onto campus sooner than later. "Oklahoma wanted me to come down this weekend. They'll throw me a couple more dates and I'll probably see what's best. But, I'm kind of looking at Arizona too."

Will the Sooners and Wildcats really receive official visits? "To be honest, I'm not positive. If I'm going to actually consider these two schools then I really, really need to."

The signing period could come and go for Hairston without a signature. Then again he could ink with a school and if it's Arizona or OU – a pair of longshots – then he would have to visit them in the next few weeks because he won't sign with a school he hasn't visited.

The likely scenario is shaping up to be a fall commitment and a spring signing. Meaning, Hairston could take him time in the next month or so, evaluate the situation, make a decision and get it out of the way and then make it official in the spring.
