On the loss to Oregon:
"We just played poorly. They had one run, and they hit us on it five times, and we didn't shut it down. We knew that we weren't going to get to (Joey) Harrington, and we gave him the opportunity to make some plays. They also scored after every one of our turnovers, and the defense had a let down (on those drives). They chewed us up. When you can't match up physically, it really takes a toll on you."
On the Wildcat defense:
"We have played two teams (Washington State and Oregon) that have had good game plans, and they have come right at us. It hasn't helped that we haven't had the same lineup at defensive end for consecutive weeks. Oregon had good pass protection, and their receivers were taking it at our corners one on one. We were not close to them, and we should have been able to get closer to their receivers. This is a precision defense, and we are not executing well. We are going to look at the situation and see what changes need to be made."
On quarterback Jason Johnson:
"We are going to focus on getting Jason to play a little better this week. He has not done as well in the last two games, so we are going to put more emphasis on working with him this week. We need to get him back to playing the way he did earlier in the season."
On Arizona's injury situation:
"We have some injuries, but there is nothing that we can do about that. We are going to have to put some players in a position to play who haven't played before. We have to look at it carefully this week. We were thin to begin with in the defensive front seven. We have had injury after injury and situation after situation there, and that was the one area where we couldn't afford any injuries."
"Keoni Fraser is still undergoing further medical tests, and he is doubtful for this week. Austin Uku tore cartilage before the game started, and he is out for at least two to three weeks. Alex Luna played the entire game, and it was unreal that we had to ask him to do that since he had surgery only 14 days ago. But, he came in today and didn't have any swelling in his knee, so that was good. Eli Wnek is doubtful for this week, but he will do some more running and walking during the week. Pat Howard is doubtful after pulling a muscle, and Scott McKee is out for the week with a strained elbow. Shelton Ross is out with a knee injury, and Joe Siofele is doubtful with a wrist injury."
Coach Mackovic's outlook:
"I've been through this before. You have to dig through it all and put it all together. There will be better days ahead. We have an excellent chance to win at least three of our last six games. We just have to continue to work with a steadfast desire to improve and get better."
