Nancy Evans keeps busy with Cats, Heat

Nancy Evans may give Jennie Finch a run for her money. While Evans doesn't have a spot on the Olympic softball team she is a cornerstone of the new Arizona Heat Pro Softball team. The former Wildcat standout will not only pitch for the team, she's also going to be a pitchwoman for a local business.

Evans, who is also an assistant coach for the Wildcat Softball team, will be the marquee player on the Heat, which will begin play in the National Pro Fastpitch Softball League this spring. Evans will play on the Heat with at least four other former Wildcats.

Evans is also going to be a spokeswoman for the Dugout Sports Store at Hi Corbett Field. She recently filmed a commercial for the store and the team, which will appear on a number of local television stations.

Evans remains one of the most storied players in Arizona history, owning a number of school records. She was also the Honda Player of th Year.

Evans will continue coaching the Wildcats, taking a greater role as Mike Candrea takes a year off to coach Team USA in international competition.

The Heat conducted their first draft, picking UCLA pitcher Keira Georl with their first round draft pick. They nabbed former Wildcat Wendy Allen in the third round. Mackenzie Vandergeest was picked seventh overall by the Texas Thunder, but the Heat have indicated that they would pursue a trade for her.
