A closer look: Arizona over Texas

Arizona's success over Texas continues as does their win streak at Madison Square Garden. We take a closer look at the win at the Jimmy V Classic, including a full box score and photos.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Hassan Adams had a career high 30 points. More importantly he hit a few early outside shots that threw the Texas defense into a tizzy. The sophomore added 10 rebounds.
Andre Iguodala had a triple-double with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.

PLAY OF THE GAME
Early in the second half Mustafa Shakur and Andre Iguodala were on a two-on-one fast break. Shakur drew the defender and then tossed a lob pass to Iguodala, which he had to gather in with his forearm before slamming it home one-handed.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME
Lute Olson is 8-0 at Madison Square Garden and 5-0 in the arena against top-10 opponents. That streak includes three Preseason NIT championships (1990, 1995, 1999) and the 2001 Coaches vs. Cancer IKON Classic title. They have beaten the likes of Texas, Florida, Maryland, Kentucky, Arkansas and Georgetown. In its history, Arizona is 9-5 in games played at MSG, including three appearances in the postseason NIT (1946, 1950, 1951). All told, UA is 9-1 in regular season games played at Madison Square Garden.

NEUTRAL SITES
Since the start of the 1997-98 season, Arizona is 16-5 (.762) in early-season tournaments and neutral-site "classic" match-ups.

TOO BAD IT IS OVER
Arizona and Texas wrapped up their eight-game series with the Cats winning all eight games. This game was originally supposed to be played in Austin, but both teams agreed to play in the Jimmy V Classic. Interestingly enough, Rodney Tention has scouted every match-up against Texas since he joined the staff in 1997.

BACK SO SOON?
Texas will return to MSG in 11 days to play Duke. That game will also be on ESPN.

GOOD NIGHT
Richard Jefferson scored 31 points in a New Jersey Nets win, then crossed the river to watch the Wildcats play.

GOOD HALVES
Salim Stoudamire scored all 17 of his points in the second half. Texas' P.J. Tucker scored 12 of his 16 in the second half.

SO MUCH FOR THE SIZE DIFFERENCE
Arizona was only outrebounded 53-48 despite a huge size disadvantage. The Horns have four players over 6-8 and they combined to pull down 13 rebounds. Arizona's three guards had 16 rebounds between them. None of the three UA guards is over 6-4. Texas' leading rebounder was P.J. Tucker, a 6-5 power forward who wasn't heavily recruited because most major programs thought he was too short.

WILDCAT DEBUT
Ryan O'Hara played in his first game with the Wildcats. The quarterback for the football team played the final nine seconds. He made his football debut in August against UTEP.

TAKING CARE OF THE BALL
Through the first four games Andre Iguodala has 26 assists to just eight turnovers.

EXTRA MOTIVATION
According to a report on KNST Radio, Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoop wished the Wildcats luck over breakfast. Stoops is the brother of new Wildcat coach Mike Stoops as well as the coach of Texas' biggest football rival.

NOTABLE QUOTABLE
"The guys knew about the record here. We told them ‘you guys don't want to be the one who doesn't win.' They came into the locker room yelling ‘9-0, 9-0'."—Lute Olson told KNST Radio.
