"They came out to play. We fought hard to win. We weren't expecting this. We need to learn from this. This is a wake up call. We need to learn how to adjust. We wanted to come out with a win and we did by playing hard until the end. Our team could have played better. We need to play to our potential every game."
"We have to play the game. We have no excuses - we are all grown men. We need to play each game like it is our last game."
On his fast break steal and lay up near the end of the game
"It was a big lay up. This was a wake up call. We showed grit and we have to show grit in these situations. Just because they are St. Mary's doesn't mean that they are not well coached and will not play hard. I mean they were okay. It was just us that didn't play hard."
On Lute's speech at halftime
"He was very hot. He was telling us that we needed to show some heart and toughness. This was really embarrassing to us. I am not happy at all."
On coming back for the win
"We should have never been in that situation to begin with."
On how St. Mary's prepared for him
"They did a good job on me. They had someone everywhere I was."
"We were not playing our game tonight and this was a learning experience for us. We need to play the best we can every game.
On what Coach Olson told him after some early game struggles
"Coach really challenged me. He told me I was playing soft and I wanted to come out and fix that and show some leadership. This is where leadership shows up in a game."
On St. Mary's
"They had the momentum. They set the up-tempo pace from the start. They hit big shots. Their three-point shooters did what they wanted to do. Any team can sit outside and shoot threes. They did a good job knocking down their shots. They came out and dictated what they wanted to do. That can't happen. Every game is a big game. We need to understand that we need to come out and play our best every game."
St. Mary's Head Coach Randy Bennett
"I thought we played real well in a tough environment. Arizona is a really good team. I was concerned about their quickness down the floor. Our team did pretty good at taking away the three-point shots. I thought we were composed on the court, but we also played sloppy. We threw a lot away. We needed the little things to happen, but they didn't and we weren't strong with the ball. My plan was to take away the transitions and the three-point shots. I wanted to keep (Chris)Rogers and (Salim)Stoudamire to take away their threes. I am really proud of my team. We could have won the game. We certainly made the plays. It's a little bit of a disapointment leaving with a loss. Southern California plays very similar to Arizona. Arizona is a better team though. The USC game helped us in this game, so we were prepared for what Arizona had. I thought we stayed aggressive throughout the game, but we turned the ball over down the stretch, and that's what lost the game. We played well enough to experience a game in a tough environment. We came out with everything but a win from this game."
