"My whole thing in taking these visits was 'did I feel comfortable spending five years there?' and I felt like I could spend the next five years there," Barnett said.
Barnett liked everything about the trip and knew it was the place for him.
"It went awesome," Barnett said. "I love the staff. The coaches say I have a great opportunity and the players are great."
Mike Jefferson was his host and Barnett liked the fact there are so many Texans on the roster.
"Oh yeah, it helps that there are a bunch of Texas guys," Barnett said. "It doesn't really matter overall, I just wanted a place where I felt comfortable. It happens that I got along with a lot of guys who are from Texas."
Once he established that he liked the people and atmosphere in Tucson, Barnett began to look at the football side of things. He is another player to be enthralled with the defensive philosophy of Mike Stoops and wants to play for the attacking style of defenses he saw at Oklahoma.
"We are going to be a defensive team," Barnett said. "I think we will have a great defense very soon."
Barnett is described as raw, but possessing a lot of potential. For a player of his size he has a lot of speed and quickness.
"I am very aggressive," Barnett said. "I like to make things happen for my team, that is my No. 1 thing. I give my team my all. I come off the line very fast. For a big guy I am pretty quick."
Barnett is one of the San Antonio area's best prospects and he had some intriguing offers from some up-and-coming teams in the Big 12 as well as Wisconsin. The chance to make a fast impact was a major attraction to the Wildcats.
"They are saying I have an opportunity to play right away," Barnett said. "I just want to come in and do my best."
