Wildcat players lend a hand as celebrity chefs

Head Coach Lute Olson and a few member of the Wildcat Basketball team exchanged their uniforms after practice Oct. 30 and donned aprons at Sakura Japanese Restaurant to take part in the Blake Foundation Celebrity Chef Dinner to raise money for local charity.

Olson has been doing this for many years and Ricky Anderson was making his third annual appearance and redshirt-sophomore Andrew Zahn his second.

Anderson was one of the stars of the evening, bantering with other players and those eating at his table.

For freshmen Dennis Latimore, Isaiah Fox, Salim Stoudamire and sophomore Jason Ranne it was their inaugural performance.

Ranne and Latimore took turns attempting to catch pieces of chicken tossed from one table to another by other players. Neither was particularly successful, but Ranne would have won the contest.

For the occassion, each player manned a Teppan grill, with the assistance of an experienced chef, and treated those attending the affair to a performance that made everyone laugh as these would-be chefs sliced-and-diced their way through the evening.

The eaters managed to elude morsels of flying food, no one was taken to the emergency room and the affair raised a goodly amount of money for charity.
