2005 Focus: Marcus Williams

Marcus Williams, a 6-5 junior shooting guard from Seattle, has some high-profile programs expressing interest in him...

Marcus Williams, 6-5 JR SG Seattle (Wash.) Roosevelt, told us last night that he's hearing from a wide variety of schools.

"Kansas...those are some of them," said Williams.

We asked which schools have been showing the most interest in him and Williams replied, "Probably Arizona and Florida. But I don't have any favorites or anything -- I'm open."

We asked if he had a favorite school growing up and Williams replied, "Duke was always my favorite."

When we inquired if there are any schools that he's pretty sure he'll visit, Williams replied, "I want to visit Arizona and Texas."

One school that's apparently sold on Williams is Washington. The Huskies have already offered a scholarship, according to Williams.

Williams talked about some of the issues he'll consider when he makes his choice. "Program prestige, how good they are with player development, the coaches, the playing style -- I'd like to play in an uptempo system," said Williams.

Williams said he isn't really sure about the timing of his decision. "If I get a lot of offers from schools that I'm happy with, I might decide early," Williams said. "But I'll wait if I'm not happy with the offers."

Academics should not be a concern, as Williams told us that he has a 2.7 GPA and scored 1020 on the SAT.
