Juniors to Watch: Paradise Valley

Head Coach Donnie Yantis at Paradise Valley High looks to have some good talent next year. One of his players, Matt Clapp, will be one of the top fullback prospects along the west coast and maybe the nation. He will be at Arizona's upcoming Junior Day. Tight End Dennis Hilburn and Offensive Lineman Shawn Byrnes also appear to be players that will get a lot of looks. We have in-depth profiles of all three inside.

Matt Clapp is a 6-3 1/2, 235 pound fullback prospect that rushed for 1,602 yards last year, and 18 touchdowns. He rushed for 1,000 yards and 19 as a sophomore. Matt has a 305 pound clean max, 455 squat, 275 bench, and a 33 inch vertical. He has 4.6 second 40 yard dash speed and can run the 100 meters in 11.3 seconds.

Matt was a second team all-state selection by the East Valley Tribune last year at running back. He was a first team all-conference selection at linebacker as a sophomore.

He is getting heavy early interest from many schools and UA has invited Clapp to their annual Junior Day, which he will attend.

"He is the hardest worker in the program," says Coach Yantis. "He is an extremely dedicated to being the best. He is a durable player and is very coachable."

Shawn Byrnes is a 6-3, 290 pound offensive guard prospect who runs the 40 in 5.3 seconds. He has a power clean of 275, a bench of 335, and a squat of 450.

Shawn was a second team all-conference selection as a junior.

"He is a very strong kid and he can run for his size."

Dennis Hilburn is a 6-2, 225 pound tight end prospect who could also project as an outside linebacker. He has a power clean of 275, a squat of 400, a bench of 235, and a 40 yard dash time of 4.7 seconds.

Hilburn has 28 catches for 300 yards and two touchdowns last year. He was a first team all-conference pick and a second team selection as a junior.

"He has great hands and a great work ethic. He is just a quality kid. He reminds me a lot of Steve Bush who also played here and is now with the Cardinals."

Cat Tracks will catch up with all of these players for interviews in the near future.
