Juniors to Watch: Mountain Ridge

Coach Steve Belles told us about four players he will have next year that he thinks will all get looks at the division one level. We take a look at Tim Ham, Nick Covey, Austin Martin, and Nick Bell. Ham and Covey earned all-state recognition as juniors.

Tim Ham is a 6-0, 195 pound running back that runs the 40 in 4.53 seconds. He obtains a 35-inch vertical jump. Ham was the Offensive Player of the Year for the Northwest Region. He was also first team all-conference and honorable mention all-state. Tim averaged 9.7 yards a carry last year.

"I think he is one of the top five running backs in the state for next year," said Coach Belles. "He has started for us since his sophomore year and he is simply one of the best players out there."

Nick Covey is a 6-3, 220 pound linebacker/tight/end/punter who runs the 40 in 4.59 seconds. He was named first team all-state as a punter after averaging 47 yards per. Nick was also a first team all-region selection as a linebacker and tight end.

"The sky is the limit for him. I think he could play anywhere, at any position, and start at the next level."

Austin Martin is a 6-1, 185 pound free safety/wide receiver who runs the 40 in 4.58 seconds. He was a first team all-conference selection as a junior.

"He is a real good athlete and has great instincts to get to the ball."

Nick Bell is a 5-7, 185 pound running back/fullback prospect.

"He is a player who can flat-out get after it. Nick will probably play fullback for us this year."

We will be catching up with all four players in the near future for interviews.
