Cats get big win, now play waiting game

Arizona had their backs against the wall and came up big. An eighth inning rally propelled the Cats to a 7-6 win and a shot at the post season. The Cats took 2-3 from USC and now wait on the NCAA selection committee.

Arizona trailed 5-0 and 6-3, but a four run eighth inning gave them the lead. Friday night starter Koley Kolberg came in and retired the final five batters for the save.

Jordan Brown hit a pair of home runs. He led off the sixth with a solo shot and then led off the eighth with another home run. After a pair of singles, Nick Hundley hit a shot that hit the top of the wall that was judged by the officials to be a home run.

John Meloan struggled early, but settled in and improved his record to 8-0.

The Wildcats are now 30-24-1 overall and 12-12 in the Pac-10. More impressively, the Cats have the second toughest struggle in the nation.

The Cats now play the waiting game. The NCAA field will be announced on Monday and Arizona can only hope that they have done enough to get in. Arizona went 5-4 down the stretch taking 2-of-3 from No. 1 Stanford and 1-of-3 from highly ranked ASU.
