During the autopsy the Medical Examiner determined that McCollins had an "Enlarged heart." The Medical Examiner also determined that "Heat was not a factor" in McCollins' death.
UAPD detectives personally relayed the initial findings to the family. The University of Arizona Police Department will await the results by the Medical Examiner's Office prior to proceeding further with this investigation.

The University of Arizona Police Department responded to a medical assist call at the University of Arizona Football Practice Field at 1:26 p.m. this afternoon after a report was received of a football player collapsing on the playing field.
The player, McCollins Umeh, age 18, was receiving treatment when officers arrived and was then treated by responding Tucson Fire Personnel. McCollins was transported to University Medical Center where he passed away at 2:24 p.m.
The University of Arizona Police Department has a primary duty to investigate the death and has notified the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office as required by law. The Pima County Coroner's Office of the Medical Examiner is responsible for determining the cause of death.
No further information is available for release at this time. As information on the case develops and can be released without compromising the investigation the information will be released.
