Phoenix fullback impressed with Cats

There are a number of good prospects in Phoenix this year. Paradise Valley fullback Matt Clapp is getting some big time interest. His only offer is from an elite program, but more should be coming.

Clapp has an offer from Oklahoma and is hearing from a number of elite programs. In addition to the Sooners, he claims Arizona State, Ohio State, Miami, Nebraska, Washington and Arizona as his favorites.

We saw a little bit of Clapp at the Arizona one-day camp and came away impressed. He has very nice size, good quickness and looked to be a reliable pass receiver. He has a nice, solid frame and carries the weight well.

Clapp enjoyed his trip and will seriously consider the Wildcats.

"I got a lot out of it," Clapp confessed. "The coaching staff was great, they want to win. The facilities are awesome. The position coach, coach (Casey) Dunn is a great guy and I really liked it, I had a great time." Although he likes the Wildcats he does not have an offer. If that offer comes he says he would be "very interested."

Don't expect any early pledges from Clapp unless a school just blows him away. Right now the plan is to go to camps at most of his favorites and then take official visits before making a decision. "It won't be until after the season," Clapp said of his current plan to make a commitment. "Visits will vary, it'll depend on if my coach if my coach will let me go during the season."

Right now Clapp is still absorbing the different things various programs have to offer, but he has a pretty good idea of what he wants in a school.

"The coaching staff, a good history and a school that wants to win," Clapp noted.
