How did you break your hand?
"Just going for a routine pass break-up and missed the ball, hit somebody and broke my hand. I just have to play with an annoying little cast on my hand. "
You've been to five fall camps, is there a difference for this one?
"There's a totally different feel. A lot more energy amongst all the players. Everyone is coming in with great spirits wanting to get after it. We're anticipating the season. Guys just want to get out here and not be 2-10 again. "
How do you measure success this season?
"Success for this team is to get back the attitude that the UofA once had. Not moping around, not feeling sorry for yourselves. Getting after it, hard work and trying to get back to a winning season."
How about personal success?
"Right now I'm contending for the free safety spot. I hope to do some things with that. I just hope to play as much as I can. I'll play wherever will help the team."
How do you stay on field this season?
"I have to play hard and play smart."
In the spring Coach Stoops said players on defense had to anticipate more, and react quicker. Have you seen that happen?
"It was baby steps in the spring. That is what you get when you have a new coach come in. Guys were just working over the spring and then we all came in and dedicated this summer to working hard. Everybody was working over the summer, watching film the whole summer and wanting to come into fall camp with a leg up so we can go into the first game we'll be ready to go."
OUTLOOK: Expect Wingate to play a lot. He is a smart veteran who fits well with this defense. Having played corner in high school he can easily adapt to being a nickel back. Brooks should get the starting role, but Wingate we see the field quite a bit.
