DT Donald Horton still has a favorite

Those following Arizona recruiting know that they have landed two early commitments from DeSoto, TX players. They also know that a third DeSoto standout is pretty close to committing, in fact he is expected to pull the trigger.

DeSoto DT Donald Horton is the quickest and fastest defensive tackle prospect in the state of Texas this year. Despite being overpowered sometimes when double-teamed (he'll get bigger/stronger), you can't teach the incredible speed he brings to the gridiron. While some want to move him out to DE, his speed is so ridiculous at the DT position that some will compare him to (former Oklahoma and current Chicago Bear DT) Tommie Harris.

You will simply not find a sure-fire D-I DT prospect in the Lone Star State (this year) who can actually make plays sideline to sideline, save Horton. Folks, the 6-1, 240-pounder from DeSoto is someone to watch and we have him rated No. 53 (overall) in the state of Texas.

So, who's leading for his oral commitment?

"Arizona," Horton said. "I like the fact that they're rebuilding, the temperature is right for me and the coaches are great."

Folks, we've talked up the commitment the University of Arizona made to land kids from the Lone Star State before new head man Mike Stoops arrived. After Stoops arrived in Tucson in January, the former Oklahoma defensive coordinator/secondary coach closed with three Texas Hot 100 prospects showing his ability to recruit and land top-rated prospects from the state with just a month before Signing Day, '04.

Now, with a full year to recruit kids to 'Zona, Stoops and Co. are coming away with several kids in our TheInsiders.com Texas Hot 100 and Horton appears to be the next most likely candidate to pull the trigger in favor of the Wildcats.
