Finley, Longbons have great games

A Wildcat commit had a big game to open his senior season, but it did not last long. Jermichael Finley had a big first half but as Diboll rolled to an easy win, the talented receiver took a seat. Here's a quick re-cap on several of the Wildcat recruits.

WR Jermichael Finley had just three receptions, but racked up 99 yards and a score as Diboll cruised to an easy win in their season opener.

Finley had a chance for a second score, but he jumped up to pull in a 20-yard reception and landed just short of the goal line inside the one.

"If he could have stretched out he could have had a second touchdown," said Caesar Hernandez, a family friend.

Finley also played free safety and had a number of big hits. In addition he played on special teams.

"He did everything," Hernandez said. "He had a lot of tackles. He only had three catches, but they didn't need him. He looks good."

Finley's half brother Jovorskie Lane is one of the top RB's in Texas. He had 15 carries for 77 yards and three scores in a Lufkin rout. Lane favors Texas and Oklahoma State but would consider the Wildcats. He is also a pretty good linebacker prospect. Aaron Darks also plays for Lufkin. He apparently had three vicious hits in the game. Peoria Centennial crushed Agua Fria 62-0. Terry Longbons had 254 yards rushing on 16 carries, plus a 36-yard pass reception. He ran for six scores, including touchdown runs of 64, 35, 24 and 29 yards.

DeSoto High beat Garland 21-16. The Wildcats have two commitments from DeSoto players and two more are very interested. DeSoto actually led 21-0, but had to hang on for the win.

Wildcat recruit Brian Jackson had a touchdown reception, a fumble recovery and an interception in the win. Arizona commit Michael Thomas had two grabs for 38 yards.

Blake Kerley's South Garland squad beat Mesquite Horn 16-0.

Denton Ryan and Xavier Kelly beat Denton 37-9. It's Ryan's most lopsided win in the nine-year history of the rivalry. Ryan has beaten Denton five straight seasons and now leads the series 6-3.

Xavier Smith and Sunnyside upended Ekom Udofia 17-7. Daniel Borg and Ironwood Ridge lost to Cienega 29-7.
