LB still eyeing Arizona

One of the nation's best linebackers is considering the wildcats. Mike Stoops and Co. have a lot of work to do to leapfrog the likes of USC, Miami and Oklahoma, but just being mentioned in the same breath is a huge step forward for the program.

LB Luthur Brown (6-2, 225, 4.7) of Lakewood (CA) has over 20 scholarship offers coast-to-coast, but denies a leader. "I haven't reached a point where I can say that I have a top five," says Brown.

"I'm not planning to overlook anybody. I really want to give each team a chance, but I don't want to lead anybody on either. I'll start to narrow it down and start to set up visits in a couple of weeks, probably towards the end of October."

Luthur says that USC, Miami and Oklahoma seem to be recruiting him the hardest. He plans to attend the USC vs Cal game on October 9th.

"Right now I don't really know what all these schools have to offer yet. I need to make sure the program is doing well or at least on the way up. I won't get rid of a school just because of a bad season, but I haven't even had the time to watch any games yet. I hope to start watching more games, but it's been too hectic so far. One of the main things I'll be looking for is if the school takes care of its own. If things don't work out with football after college I want to make sure the school has a good support system to help me out."

The only schools that Luthur has visited so far are USC and LSU. "I was in Mississippi over the summer visiting family and LSU is like 2 hrs away so I went to visit them. The campus is wonderful and basically it's all new. They are still rebuilding a lot so if the building isn't new yet, it will be soon.

"When I'm forced to give faves I just name the top schools. I usually say USC, Miami, Oklahoma, LSU, Ohio St. But I also like Kansas, UCLA and Arizona. I think coach Mike Stoops is really turning things around. He did a great job with the defense at Oklahoma and he'll do it at Arizona. If they don't end up having a good season this year I'm sure they will next year."

2.3/790 SAT--will retake Oct 9th.
