Keefe looking forward to Midnight Madness

It will be a vital weekend in terms of recruiting for Arizona, as five players from California plan to make unofficial visits to the campus to attend Midnight Madness on Friday night. This gives Arizona a great opportunity to shine in front of its prospects.

One player planning to visit is James Keefe. Keefe is a five star power forward from Santa Margarita, CA. Keefe weighs in at 200 pounds and stands 6-8 tall, giving him good size for a power forward.

Keefe is a very versatile player. He's most proud of his rebounding abilities and despite being a very good shooter, he feels that he needs to work on his shooting range. Keefe feels he most resembles Ben Wallace with his rebounding ability, but Wildcat fans will see a little bit of Ricky Anderson in his game.

Keefe has narrowed down his list to five schools, and is looking forward to this weekend's visit.

"I am really excited," said Keefe. "I've head a lot about Midnight Madness and am looking forward to seeing what it is all about."

On his visit, Keefe is looking for a number of things, which will influence his decision on whether or not to commit to Arizona.

"I want to see the environment, campus and the players," Keefe said. "I hear [Arizona] has a great environment where the whole town takes in the team. Also I've heard they have an amazing facility." This is not the first time that Arizona's facilities have helped them in recruiting. Marcus Williams also loved the facilities, and was a factor in his decision to commit. He commented exclusively on the way the team trainer personalizes each person's workout plan and diet. Keefe is looking at four schools in addition to Arizona. He has also taken a unofficial visits to two schools, though one is no longer on his list. "The five schools I'm looking at are Arizona, Stanford, Duke, UCLA and Notre Dame," explained Keefe. "I took unofficial visits to UCLA and Cal, but there wasn't much there for me at Cal."

Keefe likes all of the different schools for different reasons.

"I like UCLA in their location, history and strengths academically," said Keefe. "I also like Stanford and Duke for their academics and good reputations."

Keefe explained that he also likes the fact that Stanford and UCLA are in California, he's not determined to stay home, but it will be a consideration.

"Location is a factor, but not a deciding factor," Keefe said.

NOTE: Keefe will be joined at Midnight Madness by 2006 recruits Chase Budinger, Alex Stepheson, Quincy Pondexter and Josh Lomers. 2007 recruit Keith Olson will also be on hand.

CAT TRACKS' ANALYSIS:Midnight Madness is Arizona's chance to shine for such a great player and possibly pull in a 2006 senior. Keefe is a key big man prospect for the Wildcats in a class that they will probably try to land two big men. If Keefe commits, he will come at a good time as Channing Frye will be gone, Isaiah Fox will be a senior, and the rest of the players are unproven.
