"The staff wants me to come out there in December so it will either be on the 10th or the 17th," explained Smith. "I like the new staff there and I think they are going to turn things around. Willie is one of my best friends and he is going there so it would be cool to continue to play with him."
Coach Kish is after him for the Cats.
Smith will be visiting Cal this weekend and Washington in late November.
He is looking hard at four schools. "Cal and Arizona are the main ones and I also like Fresno State and Washington. I'd say that Cal and Fresno State are showing me the most attention."
Who do his parents like? "My parents want me to stay close to home so they like Cal. I do have Grandparents in Tucson. I have been to the campus before and really like the area."
Although he is a standout at d-end, Smith could also play on offense. "Most schools tell me they like me on defense but are asking me if I would be interested in playing offense. Last year was actually the first time I have ever played defense and I really like it, but it doesn't matter to me what side of the ball I play on."
The versatile big man tells us what makes him a player. "I am very strong and have good height and size. For my size, I also have great agility and quickness."
This fall, he has 10 sacks, an interception for a touchdown, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. At tight end, he has 12 catches for 125 yards.
Smith carries a 2.85 core GPA and scored a 970 on his SAT.
St. Mary's is 6-1 on the year and will be taking on Lodi Tokay, this Friday.
