Cats add All-USA player to recruiting class

Arizona has signed a USA-Today All-American. In addition to this player being the recipient of a highly respected award, he is also the first Arizona player in the Wildcats' recruiting class.

So, is Danny Baugher the punter of the future?

Baugher averaged 44.9 yards a punt this season for Mountain Pointe (Phoenix). He got off a 68-yard punt this season. He also handled place-kicking duties, kicking 23 extra points and five field goals. Baugher could be in the mix next season.

"The coaches said I would come in and compete right away," Baugher said.

Baugher visited this past weekend and committed at half time of the Arizona/Oregon basketball game.

I really like the coaches and the campus," Baugher said. "It was the perfect fit."

Even though he is from the Phoenix area, Baugher grew up watching both the Wildcats and the Sun Devils.

"I grew up following both teams, but I always liked Arizona a little better."

The Wildcats like to have their kicking specialist play an active role in practice. The kickers go through drills with the linebackers and participate as centers in passing drills. Unlike many kickers, Baugher will feel right at home with the linebackers. Baugher was an All-Central Region linebacker and led his team in rushing with 591 yards and six TDs.
