Depending on what happens with the Longhorns, Finley could still wind up inking with the Wildcats. Because nothing suggests for sure that UT is in fact looking to seriously pursue the Diboll wide receiver.
However, the 4-star athlete did say the Horns began recruiting him again, so it's definitely something to pay attention to. And, Texas could try to set up an in-home visit this week, but as of this interview had yet to do so... At this point, however, one thing is clear and that is Finley's grandma is tightening up the ship around there, especially with regard to who and when the media/ coaches are allowed to talk to her grandson.
"We're in a family meeting about that (Finley's recruitment) right now," Mrs. Clara Mitchell said (and has said at least a few different times here of late when she decides to put the clamps on).
One thing is for sure, Grandma don't play that.
Grandma, may very well be a Cats fan, wanting to keep Finley from looking anywhere else. Or, maybe she doesn't want her grandson to make a mistake by listing the Horns as his favorite at this time (though, he told us he is very serious about UT, if they are very serious about him), especially since she doesn't even know if the interest from Texas is truly mutual. When she puts it like that, you can't blame her. That's just being smart.
Another interesting development in Finley's recruitment is Diboll high school is not releasing his transcript. We placed a phone call to the principal of Diboll and he said that that is specifically due to parent request.
This has several colleges wondering if he'll qualify. Not to mention, Finley has yet to take the ACT/SAT and per NCAA rules is not allowed to take any official visits until he takes the test. That said, the 4-star wideout is slated take the ACT in December.
"I'm taking the ACT test December the 14th."
After attempting to qualify, Finley can then begin taking official visits...
Reports over the weekend from other sources claimed that the tight end/wide receiver had decommitted but he not only denied those reports, but denied speaking with any reporters over the weekend. Finley told Cat Tracks that he wanted to visit in January. He also told us that he was pretty firm to the Wildcats.
"No sir, I am not decommitted from Arizona," said Finley. "I am still solid to Arizona and I am going to visit for the UCLA basketball game."
It looks like this one could be interesting until signing day.
