A Closer Look: Arizona over Wyoming

After a few rough offensive outings, the Wildcat broke out of their scoring slump. Arizona put up 98 points, and in doing so three freshmen set career scoring highs.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Salim Stoudamire. Stoudamire scored 19 points, grabbed four boards and dished out four assists. He played a few long stretches at point guard and looked comfortable doing it.

PLAY OF THE GAME
Jawann McClellan goes up for a tough lay-in and is hammered, but gets the shot to fall and goes to the line. On his way to shoot the foul shot, McClellan urges on the crowd by waving his arms.

TURNING POINT
Late in the first half the Cowboys cut the Wildcat lead down to two. Jesus Verdejo makes a tough shot to double the lead and a few minutes later the Cats led by eight at the break.

THAT'S A LOT
The McKale Center surpassed the 6,000,000 mark for men's basketball. The arena opened in 1973 when the Wildcats beat Wyoming 87-69. Since then the Cats have averaged 12,557 fans per contest.

JUCO HELP
Wyoming has seven junior college transfers on their roster. Conversely, Arizona has none.

THE SERIES
Arizona leads the all-time series 20-15, but are 14-3 in Tucson. Prior to Tuesday's game the last two meetings were on neutral courts.

The Cats and Cowboys last met in the second round of the 2002 NCAA Tournament. Channing Frye, Isaiah Fox and Salim Stoudamire were all on the Wildcat roster for that game. Jay Straight is the only Cowboy player left on the team who played in that game.

CAREER HIGHS
Jawann McClellan had a career high 19 points, eclipsing his former best mark by eight points. Jesus Verdejo's eight points are a career high and Mohamed Tangara scored his first career point when he made a second half free throw.

OFFENSIVE TURNAROUND
After averaging just over 60 points a game the last three contests, Arizona rebounded and scored 98. The Cats had not shot above 40% in the final three games, but shot 47.9% against Wyoming.
