Linebacker down to two

Arizona may still be in the hunt for a big time linebacker from California. The prospect has it narrowed down to two teams. Are the Cats one of them?

Marcus Smith, 6-4, 215 pound linebacker from San Diego (Calif.) Mission Bay took a visit to Arizona and the Wildcats are now co-leaders along with USC with a decision coming very soon.

Smith has already taken official visits to Oklahoma, Fresno State and now Arizona.

"I went to Oklahoma with my teammate Scott White," Smith said. "I went to Fresno last weekend and just got back from Arizona. I liked it a lot down there. My host was Kirk Johnson. He told me that if I came in and practiced hard, the way I want to, and hung in there I could play my freshman year. I don't want to redshirt."

Offers have come in so far from Arizona, Arizona State, Fresno State and Boise State.

"I'm done taking trips and I think I'm going to decide between Arizona and USC, hopefully by next weekend," Smith said. "USC is talking to me about tight end. I'm not going to take an official visit there. I've already visited twice unofficially. I'm waiting to hear from a coach from USC tonight, Coach Holt about an offer. Then I should be set to decide pretty soon."
