Cats land Texas Defensive End

The Arizona coaches are out on the road trying to put the finishing touches on what is a great recruiting class. Head Coach Mike Stoops and his defensive coordinator and brother Mark Stoops were in the home of Dallas (Texas) Skyline defensive end Garrett Fields tonight. According to Fields the in home visit with the Stoops brother went well. In fact, it went really well.

So well in fact that Garrett decided it was time to end the recruiting process and commit to the Wildcats.

"The Arizona coaches were just here and they just left," said the 6-foot-3 inch, 240 pound defensive end. "Coach Mike and Coach Mark Stoops were here and I committed to them tonight."

Even though he had other offers Fields says that he knew where he wanted to go.

"I knew all along that I wanted to go to Arizona," said Fields. "I just knew that was where I wanted to go because Stoops has the program going in the right direction. I saw the convincing win over Arizona State and that will give them a lot of momentum going into next season. Their recruiting class is great and I know they got that great quarterback from California."

While on his official visit to Tucson, Fields said that he had the urge to commit but that he wanted to wait and see other schools to try and compare them to Arizona.

"I wanted to get out and see another school so I would have something to compare Arizona to," he said. "But in the end I knew that I wanted to go there so I committed when they were here tonight. I am very happy with my decision and so is my father. Coach Stoops, both of them, were happy that I committed and they said congratulations to me."

Fields in the Wildcats 20th verbal commitment for the 2005 signing class and he is the second defensive end to commit to Arizona. Fields is a welcome sight to Arizona as the remaining few scholarships were clearly earmarked for the all important defensive line positions.
