"The trip was great - I loved it," said Kerley emphatically. "Dillon Hansen was my host and he was a cool guy. I got to meet with a bunch of academic people and also got an equipment presentation. It was pretty cool to see all of the equipment. That was probably the highlight of the trip."
Kerley led South Garland to a 9-2 record this fall. They fell in the first round of the playoffs to Mesquite, 51-37. "Our defense had played well all season so that was kind of a surprise to see them give up that many points."
He did not see any time on the defensive side of the ball. "I always thought that I would end up being a defensive player in the long run. I had played it all the way up until my sophomore year when I switched to center. We don't have players go both ways at my school because my coach doesn't like the fact that if someone gets injured, there will be two spots to fill."
Kerley was named first team all-district at center. "The Texas all-state team hasn't came out yet, but I hope to be on it."
He carries a 3.6 core GPA and scored a 1250 on his SAT. The future Wildcat is undecided on a major.
